Bone Strain Index

Medical device to support fracture risk assessment.

In the diagnosis of osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD) is the gold standard for fracture risk assessment. However, many fragility fractures occur in individuals with osteopenia or within the normal range.

To better evaluate fracture risk, it is therefore necessary to consider other clinical and densitometric parameters that affect bone strength.

Bone Strain Index is a Medical Device Software that provides information on bone stress and strain specific to the patient.

Although it has long been known that fracture and bone remodeling phenomena are driven by strain, the role of strain in the specific clinical context is still under investigation.

To this end, various collaborations are underway to refine the calculations underlying the software and improve its clinical interpretation depending on the specific application.

The Bone Strain Index software combines the automatic calculation of strain on the femur and lumbar spine based on Finite Element Models with an interface useful for data classification and basic statistics.
